Help save the European Amazone

Romania has the largest expanses of virgin forests in Europe.

The PRIMOFARO inventory is based on satellite and regional images and has identified the last 526,000 hectares of potentially primary and secular forests in Romania, the last large areas of virgin forests in Europe.. On paper, two thirds – more than 300,000 hectares – of Romania’s natural forests are included in the European Natura 2000 network, but most of these forests have no protection whatsoever. With about 8% of Romanian forests still untouched, much of it can be described as the last Amazon forest of Europe.

Primary and secular forests have become extremely rare in Europe, all of which should have special protection status. Upto now the Romanian government has failed to protect primary and secular forests. While ecologists worked with bureaucratic burdens in conjunction with the Virgin Forest Catalog, tens of thousands of hectares of natural forest in Natura 2000 areas and national parks were destroyed. Agent Green and EuroNatur call on the European Union to take urgent action to save the “Amazon of Europe” and to ensure that Natura 2000 legislation is respected in Romania.

Agent green.

Established to protect Retezat Mountains, last Intact Forest Landscape in the temperate climate of Europe, AGENT GREEN evolved into the conduct of sophisticated investigations, scientific approach, strategic cooperation and effective campaigns targeted to bring positive and lasting change for nature.

Agent Green is outraged that coniferous forests in Retezat last Intact Forest Landscape (IFL) in Europe, burns in fireplaces on Christmas. Tubular briquettes and pellets made by Schweighofer plant in Sebes are sold in other countries such as SPAR supermarkets, gas stations, as well as Shell and OBI DIY stores.

Retezat is not just a park, but the center of biodiversity in Europe, the last large oasis of wildness and should be completely free of any human intervention, particularly by chainsaws. The fact that the most valuable trees have become a common firewood is surprising for consumers who want to make an educated choice when it comes to heating their home.
